Complete redesign of 3 main association sites from mapping content from old sites all the way through deployment which were our first Azure assets.

Context

Complete redesign and rebuild of three main public-facing association websites, migrating from legacy on-premises infrastructure to Azure-hosted web applications.

Architectural Decisions

  • OrchardCMS chosen as the content management platform for its flexibility and .NET ecosystem integration.
  • Azure Web Applications selected for hosting to improve performance, scalability, and reduce infrastructure management overhead.
  • Content mapping from old sites to new was a significant planning effort.

Challenges

  • Mapping and migrating content from three legacy websites to the new platform.
  • Coordinating with multiple stakeholders across departments for content review and approval.
  • Ensuring SEO continuity during the migration.
  • First Azure deployment for the organization, requiring new deployment processes and procedures.

Outcomes

  • Successfully launched three redesigned websites on Azure.
  • Improved site performance and user experience.
  • Established the organization's first Azure-hosted web applications, paving the way for future cloud migrations.
  • Reduced infrastructure maintenance burden by moving from on-premises to managed cloud hosting.

My Role

Lead Developer responsible for architecture, design, and implementation. Coordinated content migration with department stakeholders. Managed the Azure deployment process.
